Foods – A Token For Peace

by Eleanora Scarpetta

A hot bowl of soup can comfort the soul but displaying a home cooked meal on the table always brought peace and love to everyone.  Food soothes, comforts and brings a sense of peacefulness to our bodies and souls.  I remember my family never missing a meal together and no matter how rough the day went, or how stressed we felt, food became our savior to that “make-you-feel-good attititude” along with a sense of great pleasure of enjoying the home cooked meal.

Lasagna, Manicotti, homemade Tagliatelle or Chicken Cacciatore made everyone more than happy to enjoy foods but also brought us tranquility, harmony and sense of closeness.  These are the moments not only savoring the food but being together and sharing our thoughts, laughter and love for each other. Touching base at the table with good food prepared with care and love make us appreciate not only the food but ourselves as well.

My mother always believed that food was the answer to almost anything that made you feel bad or sad.  Food - the perfect remedy for making you more nutritiously healthy, bringing you closer to your family and friends and is a definite token for peace.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

ELEANORA SCARPETTA - If you're wondering who I am, I'm the lady from Easton, Ct. who you might have seen on the Martha Stewart Living Show demonstrating traditional Italian Cooking. That's me - Eleanora Scarpetta, the lady who loves to cook and has a passion for food.

I recently moved from the Bronx, approximately 3 years ago. I was born in Naples, Italy in a town called "Cervinara" Province of Avellino. I came to America when I was three years old (about 20 years ago--ha ha) .

Most of my cooking interests were inspired by my mother. She came to America at age 43 and was a domesticated homemaker all of her life. I was fortunate enough to stay home and raise my three children which gave me the time to apply a lot of my energy towards creative cooking.

My mother taught me many diversified, easy, traditional Italian dishes which I polished and enhanced for my personal taste. Lets just say I have mastered them and made them more exciting and desirable.

Of course, much of my motivation comes from a healthy appetite and a craving for good, delicious food. Please read more on my web site...I'd love to share my insight on cooking with you, and tell you more about Italy...its influence and inspiration.
