What's important to you? What speaks to your soul?
When life gets too busy and overwhelming, stop for a moment and listen. Do you hear a whisper? Is there a faint voice that nudges you in a certain direction? It could be subtle, like the murmur of wind or the rustle of leaves. But listen carefully. Within that sound is a set of divine instructions. A recipe to excite your taste buds. New flavors. New worlds. New horizons.
Perhaps inside you is a sculpture waiting to be shaped, a picture yearning to be painted, a book crying to be written; realizations waiting to be found. It's as if you've been playing a game of hide and seek since you were 3 years old, and suddenly, years later, you start to discover where all your friends have been hiding.
These friends are gifts. And one by one they will appear when you begin to look for them. But talents that have been hiding for a long time are not used to the open light. Coax them to come out. Gently. They’re like children that have yet to grow up and they respond well to kindness and understanding. And I’ll tell you a secret: they love music.
Music can often speak to them when words fail. It’s a bridge to the place where the whispers come from, a carrier of love when you need some. A connector to wisdom and answers you've forgotten you have.
The “words” of music are melodies that can remind you of who and what you are. Because you are also a melody that has been sung into being for a unique purpose. And you have gifts to share with the world.
Sometimes a particular melody can nudge your own melody into prominence. And that’s when an invisible force –some call it spirit -- wraps you in a soft cocoon. For it knows you are about to emerge from your hiding place, that you are about to transform from a grub into a beautiful flying thing, ready to soar.
It takes great courage to fly. Because the instant you take off you will have jumped into the unknown, to glide on the currents of spirit, the breeze that contains the whispered words of soul, the song that has been hidden within you since you first began to play hide and seek.
Put on your favorite music and listen to it with new ears. You might be surprised to hear a second melody, one that comes from yourself, that can instantly whisk you away from the world of hurried confusion to a world that allows your gifts to emerge.
Listen to your song. It's singing right now.
