"Home is where the heart is...and on the Olympic Peninsula" At the completion of each issue the framework of the following issue is already conceived, however we did not foresee the creation of a special Olympic Peninsula issue dedicated to writers who also play in our wondrous backyard! The Northwest is famous for attracting artists by its natural beauty and evoking creative peaks and reflective valleys through its emotive weather. It should be no surprise that the Olympic Peninsula is dense with creative writers, but, who knew such a creative clan was clustered in the foothills of the Olympics? While becoming acquainted with this issue's writers, it was inspiring to see couples sharing a soulmate connection, enjoying the outdoors, expressing themselves creatively, and fostering nurturing friendships for themselves and their children. These independent, down-to-earth, intelligent, spiritual beings evolved from freely enjoying each other to choosing to start families and, although challenging, continued to live creatively, passionately, and actively enjoying nature and pursuing their dreams. So, you ask, "What does this have to do with SpirituallyFit.com?" In a society where so many Americans have lost touch with their spirituality, a sense of community, and nurturing family relationships through personal communication and quality time, it was so refreshing to watch these couples and see how living in and loving nature truly makes a positive impact on the lives of individuals and families. In a concrete jungle how easy is it to stop and smell the roses? For those of us that live in a beautiful area like the Olympic Peninsula we hear the birds, smell the trees, feel the ocean breeze, walk on leaves and moss, climb the peaks, surf the waves, and kayak the rivers. Nature's web of life teaches us about interconnectedness and about change that happens...when it's meant to happen. The more time we spend in nature, the more we become aware and awake; we learn from the Universe's teacher without even trying. As a result we become better teachers for our children. And, even better yet, while at play, our children innately learn from nature lessons, natural laws, and concepts we would find difficult to put into words or pictures. Ever wonder why they call her "Mother Nature"? Initially, this issue was special just because it featured authors and friends close to home but, the overwhelming and unintended theme of family so clearly conveyed the truth about how important nature is in our lives, for our families, our spirituality, our society and our Universe. Could we solve our nation's family problems by simply telling everyone to "Take a Hike!!"? It sure would be fun presenting this solution to our legislators! We hope you enjoy this issue for the stories, the quality of writing, and for the opportunity to meet wonderful artists from the Olympic Peninsula! We appreciate the coordination Dave Shreffler provided for this special issue. It was awesome to have Kate Reavey as our first featured woman writer along and her husband Tom and their friends Mary and Tim. And, our personal friend, Leslie Eaton. Then, there's our regular contributor, Al Harris, who just happens to also live on the Olympic Peninsula. Since we're thanking everyone, we also thank Pat O'Hara for becoming part of this issue! For visitors to the Olympic Peninsula, you'll find it difficult to leave town without seeing a Pat O'Hara post card or poster! This was a fun issue to create and we're proud to share our Olympic Peninsula artists with you! Do you have an opinion about anything in this issue?
